Toronto's Fringe Festival first began in 1989 and regularly draws crowds of almost 50,000 people to attend the various plays and concerts. Taking place in July, it’s the third largest fringe festival in Canada and involves 11 venues which put on performances from more than 130 theatre companies.
Local artists are supported wherever possible but this event also has a worldwide flavor, with artists from diverse countries making the annual trip to Toronto. Past years have seen productions including James O' Reilly's Work and Denis McGrath's irreverent Top Gun! The Musical.
