Comedian Holds the Floor

For comedy-loving backpackers, few events can top the ‘Just For Laughs’ Festival in Montreal. The annual festival has become the premier event on the comedy calendar.
The extensive program runs throughout July: the first two weeks are devoted to French speakers, and the second two to English. Comedians range from the unknown to big-name stars, with recent headliners including Jim Carey, Jerry Seinfeld and John Cleese.
In addition to the standup, there’s also an astoundingly diverse array of performances from pantomimes to acrobatics. Meanwhile, a recent development – the Comedia Festival – showcases around 150 comedy short films and the odd feature film as well.
Events take place, inside and out, right across Montreal and frequently hit you just when you aren’t expecting it. So be prepared to enter a city where laughs are always just around the corner!
