Calgary Stampede - Canada
When: 03 July 2009 - 12 July 2009
Declared by organizers to be the greatest outdoor show on the planet, the Calgary Stampede lures around a million visitors to the city every year. Celebrating everything related to the Canadian Old West, it offers a similar look and feel to an American rodeo show.
The Calgary Stampede first began in 1912 and was the creation of Guy Weadick. The purpose of the event was to continue the memory of the Old West and highlight the skill of the cowboys who lived through it.
In addition to the world-class rodeo, chuck wagon races, grandstand shows and a fair bit of partying take place throughout the ten day event. Famously, there's a huge breakfast every morning that sees the 40,000 people trying to shake off a monumental hangover!
