Overview to Canada: Travel Guide and Tourist Information

Canada

In the great Canadian cities of Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa, ethnic and cultural variety is very much the order of the day.

And the country is home to a number of internationally-acclaimed events such as the Toronto International Film Festival, the ‘Just for Laughs’ comedy festival in Montreal and the Stratford Theater Festival in Ontario.

But you have to get out of the cities to appreciate the sheer scale of the country. Canada is pretty much defined by its size; it’s also, of course, home to one half of the world’s biggest and most famous waterfalls. The Niagara Falls sees more than six million cubic feet of water a minute crash over the USA/Canada border.

As befits one of the last great wildernesses, Canada can lay claim to any number of National Parks. Here, amongst the mountains, forests and vast lakes, there are a range of outdoor pursuits, activities and adventure travel opportunities, from outstanding skiing in the Canadian Rockies and the Laurentians of Quebec to hiking and climbing, well, pretty much everywhere.

Travelers in Canada should expect to cover enormously long distances. The Tran-Canada Highway, which runs from one side of the country to another, is one of the longest continuous roads in the world. Its passage through roughly 7000 square kilometers of the soaring peaks of Banff National Park in Alberta is effectively just one set of striking views after another.

And this is essentially the point; from the stunning icy wastes of the Arctic north to the cosmopolitan cities of the south, there are few more attractive and appealing destinations for travelers.
