Things to Do in Sofia

This amazing multi-domed edifice is the biggest Orthodox Church in Sofia. Either marvel at the outside, or venture in and see the museum of Bulgarian icons, which the Church claims is the biggest collection in Europe.

Spend your pocket money on the trendy and bustling Vitosha Boulevard. Lined with fashion boutiques and boasting exhibitions by world-famous fashion designers, the Boulevard is rightfully considered Sofia’s Style Central.

Indulge your taste buds with an astounding variety of gastronomic treats from this vast indoor market. Make sure to try some Garish Torta (which tastes much better than it sounds).

Studenski Grad is the place to be. Hip and funky bars, a teeming retro-cool atmosphere, and a lot of flowing Bulgarian alcohol. If you’re mixing it with the locals, be warned – they can drink!

The Vitosha Mountain is Sofia’s symbol. It rises out behind the city and offers hiking or skiing day trips for those who like their holidays active. Of course, if you’re not in the mood for exertion, you can always just sit in a café on top of the mountain, and enjoy the stunning view.
