As if Rio's carnival wasn't enough, the city brings you New Year celebrations that are on a truly epic scale. The Copacabana beach is the 'humble' setting for this extravaganza, and witnesses an explosion of samba and sound.
Huge stages are set up with top DJs providing the soundtrack for when the sun sets on the crest of the ocean and the night party begins. A non-stop night of Brazilian cocktails and dancing usually keeps the revelers' spirits up.
For those who want to look the part on the dance floor – or patch of sand! – samba lessons also run throughout the evening. All in all, the vibrancy of New Year in Rio is something that has to be experienced to be believed!
