1. Museo San Francisco, La Paz
Located in La Paz, this museum documents Bolivia's rich history with displays in both Spanish and English. Its restored church tower offers an excellent view of the Plaza, and beyond, to the whole capital. There’s also the handy option of a personal guide.
2. Eduardo Avaroa National Park
Bolivia's most visited tourist attraction shares its borders with Chile. It’s famed for its rare plants, hot springs, the world’s largest salt flat and the dramatic sight of its volcanoes rising up to 16,400 ft above sea level.
3. Isla del Sol, Lake Titicaca
A vitally important religious site and the birthplace of the great Inca Empire. Populated by traditional Aymara communities, it's the largest island in Lake Titicaca and is located 12km northwest of Copacabana.
4. Oruro Carnaval
Oruro is located roughly halfway between the cities of La Paz in the north and Sucre in the south of Bolivia. Its carnival is an extravagant week-long fiesta taking place around February/March, where thousands of visitors enjoy local food and activities including water fighting and costume dancing.
5. Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana, Copacabana
This 16th century colonial shrine can be found in Copacabana near the Peruvian border of Lake Titicaca. Located at the base of a sacred Inca hill, the 'Temple of the Sun' virgin image is revered by local believers. The town of Copacabana is also an attractive place within easy walking distance of several important Inca ruins.
