Things to Do in Azerbaijan

Built on an outlet of natural gas, this temple has been sacred to the Zoroastrians since the 6th century. It now houses a museum where the rituals of these fire worshippers can be explored in more depth.

This open-air museum has a series of 4,000 drawings dating back some 12,000 years, with tour guides offering informative commentary on their origins and symbolism.

Founded in 1920, this institute is the home of over 25,000 archaeological finds from the excavation sites across the country, and even from the depths of the Caspian Sea. Amongst the main attractions is an Asykhanthropos dinosaur jaw discovered in 1968 in Fizuli.

A majority of the earth's active mud volcanoes are located in Azerbaijan and their alleged medicinal qualities draw travelers eager to indulge themselves in a gooey bath from all over the globe.

Located at the base of Jingirdag Mountain, this mysterious stone looks fairly innocuous but it creates a uniquely musical tone when struck with another stone. Often referred to as the 'Stone Tambourine', it produces a different note depending on which region of its surface is struck.
