New Year's Eve Fireworks

Fireworks over the Sydney Harbour Bridge

New Year's Eve Fireworks in Sydney - Australia

When: 31 December 2009

There are few better places to spend New Year’s Eve than in Sydney. As the clock (and the calendar) ticks over, one of the most spectacular fireworks displays you’re ever likely to see is launched over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

There are, in fact, two separate displays during the evening: the first takes place at 21:00 and is launched from two barges in the harbour. This is, however, dwarfed by the display three hours later, which produces an astounding array of multicolored pyrotechnics.

Taking a cruise to the area for New Year is becoming an increasingly popular option and this can provide a perfect view of the display though there are also a number of fantastic vantage points dotted around the city… Get there early as the crowds are enormous!

In truth, it doesn’t have to remain solely a nighttime event as there are events throughout the day. Get to the harbour anytime during the day and there’s sure to be plenty going on such as skywriting or ‘fire tugging’.

But it’s the fireworks that really make this a unique event known across the globe. Over a million people congregate around the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge for the main event and watch in awe as the night sky is lit up by dramatic flashes of color.
