Water Skier in Action
Melbourne Moomba Waterfest - Australia
When: 06 March 2010 - 09 March 2010
The Moomba Waterfest takes place in Melbourne over the Labour Day weekend each March in a wonderful celebration of water-based fun. Moomba is an aboriginal word meaning "to come together and have fun" and the Waterfest is basically one big excuse to enjoy yourself and party!
The program consists of numerous ethnically diverse parades and musical acts that take center stage in the Alexandra Gardens. Meanwhile, the watery aspect of the event is provided by wake boarding and water skiing championships on the Yarra River, as well as the (highly competitive!) Berry Street Bath Tub Dash.
For those who feel the need for some food to accompany all the liquid, the Around the World in 80 Dishes extravaganza, put on by 50 local restaurants at the Docklands area of the city, is on hand to fill grumbling stomachs.
The festival reaches its pinnacle on the Saturday night with a riverside concert and a massive fireworks display.
