Melbourne International Comedy Festival

 A Stage Ready for Laughs

Melbourne International Comedy Festival - Australia

When: 24 March 2010 - 18 April 2010

This event (which runs from March to April) was founded by Barry Humphries and Peter Cook to showcase Melbourne's comedy talent. The festival is now one of the largest and most popular in the world alongside the Edinburgh Fringe and Montreal's Just for Laughs.

Around 300,000 people attend the festival annually and, for some of the more popular nights, TV audiences of over one million tune in. The Gala is a particularly renowned event which boasts a competitive line-up of local comedians and international stars.

Another successful event is the Great Debate, which sees comedians employing all of their wit and intelligence to argue over a certain topic. Other activities include the Short Comedy Film Festival, the Big Laugh Out and the Barry Awards. The latter is named after the co-founder and awards the finest comedians from the month long festival.
