The SunBus in Cairns
Cairns airport is about 7km away from the city, with a frequent shuttle bus picking up incoming passengers and carting them to the city’s center. Taxis are pretty cheap, however, and might be a better option for those traveling in a group.
Cairns has an excellent bus system that runs from early morning to late at night. The Sunbus, as it’s called, services every part of Cairns from the center to the northern beaches, even reaching as far as Gordonvale in the south.
For those looking to stay in the compact city center near to most of the attractions, getting around on foot remains the cheapest and easiest way to cover the area.
