1. The Monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin, Lorri Region

Right across Armenia, the country is dotted with countless ancient monasteries. But the two UNESCO protected Byzantine monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin are surely the most remarkable.

2. Anapat Cave, Yenokavan Canyon

One of several caves in the Yenokavan Canyon, the Anapat Cave stands out for its collection of pre-Christian face carvings and Christian altar carvings inside.

3. Geghard Monastery, Goght Village

Essentially a combination of numbers one and two, the Geghard Monastery (partially hewn out of a mountain) is another of Armenia’s unique religious sites. In addition to the 13th century cathedral, the surrounding area is riddled with caves full of yet more early carvings and paintings.

4. The Genocide Memorial and Museum, Tsitsenakaberd Park

The memorial is made up of 12 stone blocks representing the 12 provincial regions of Armenia involved in the Turkish genocide of 1915. The museum offers guided tours that provide additional commentary on its four permanent exhibition rooms.

5. Horse Riding, Northern Armenia

From day treks to seven-day camping trips, many different tours are available across a variety of routes. Suitable for all abilities, the free-range horseback rides across Armenia's colorful mountain scenery are definitely an exciting experience.
