Your Guide to Traveling by Train
Whether you’re a student heading off on a train trip round Europe, a couple planning a romantic break, or even on a business trip, when compared to other forms of transport, rail travel is an extremely attractive proposition. There are no significant check-in times, jet-lag or terrors of turbulence, there are none of the interminable traffic-jams of driving, nor is there any of the rolling and seasickness of traveling by boat. What’s more, the majority of train stations throughout the world are slap-bang in the city center. So, after a good night’s sleep you get off, and you’re there, without the extra cost of a taxi, or the hassle of having to grapple with your luggage on an airport bus.
The vast majority of the major cities and towns of the world have some sort of rail service. Most have a highly developed network of trains setting off all the time to other far-flung (and not so far-flung) parts. From the Amtrak in the United States, to inter-railing in Europe, or a rickety old train ride in Southeast Asia, the world is full of great destinations for train travel. Other forms of transport may be more practical or faster, but nothing can beat the train as a pure travel experience.
