Travel Tips

Backpacking in Andalucia

Rich in history, quintessential Spanish culture and white sandy beaches, Andalucia is a travel paradise. And with plenty of hostels across the region and cheap flights regularly stopping in Malaga, it also offers excellent backpacking.

Malaga

Picasso's Corner Backpackers HostelA hub of life and culture on the Costa del Sol, Malaga was once known for its high-rise hotels and package holiday 'charms'. Since the opening of the Picasso Museum in 2003 (the artist was born in the city), however, its urban sprawl has become increasingly chic. Crowded with tapas bars, shops, cafes, sights and events, the city is perfect for a lively beach break.

Where to Stay

In the heart of the city, Picasso's Corner Backpackers is a homely Malaga hostel that will set you back just €16 a night.

But it's also known for its vibe - friendly locals, lively barrios and the legendarily hedonistic Feria de Abril festival all make Seville an unmissable stop in Andalucia.

Granada

Oasis Backpackers' Hostel GranadaArguably the most famous landmark in Andalucia, the vast, beautiful Alhambra lies at the heart of Granada. Cadiz

Casa CaracolJutting out into the sea, the colorful port of Cadiz is a laid-back haven for surfers and backpackers. All magical stretches of sand (stand at the northern tip of Playa Victoria and look south and the beach seems to melt into the sky) and haphazard streets, it's another gem of a destination.

Where to Stay

There are a few good places for travelers on a budget, but the most central Cadiz hostel is Casa Caracol, right in the midst of the Old Town.
